Phenotype Architecture Studio
Pass Code Only, Vasant Vihar
A cornerstone of Delhi’s cocktail culture, PCO has long been an enclave for discerning patrons—where craft cocktails take center stage, conversations flow freely, and the charm of a hidden speakeasy prevails. Nestled in a basement of Vasant Vihar, this institution carved out a niche for those who seek discovery over ostentation, intimacy over spectacle, and jazz over blaring anthems.
When tasked with reimagining this legendary space, Phenotype approached the project with reverence—honoring its storied past while subtly elevating its experience. The goal was not reinvention, but refinement. Through a meticulous interplay of materiality and ambiance, each space within PCO has been curated to enhance its inherent character.
The Underground Bar now boasts an Udaipur green stone façade, punctuated with brass inlays that mirror the patterns of the wooden flooring. Plush booth seating, vintage lamps with delicate fringes, and deep-hued textures create an atmosphere of layered richness.
On the Upper Level, where the piano hums and guests gather around the bar, a palette of burgundy, salmon, and green—set against warm teak wood panelling—exudes a convivial, yet sophisticated, charm. Indirect lighting enhances the depth of the space, allowing shadows to dance across the surfaces.
The Director’s Room is a world within a world—an intimate hideaway where every detail speaks to craft and exclusivity. Dual-toned leather panels envelop the walls, textured woven wallpaper adds a tactile depth, and an illuminated onyx omakase bar serves as the centerpiece. Here, mixology is an art form, each cocktail an improvisation guided by the nuances of conversation.
From the tobacco brown leather accents to the curated black-and-white frames adorning the walls, every element has been chosen to heighten the sensory experience. The result? A space that remains true to its roots while embracing a new era of understated luxury.
At Phenotype, design is never just about aesthetics—it’s about storytelling, memory, and atmosphere. In PCO, we have crafted not just a space, but an experience—one where the past and present merge seamlessly, wrapped in the quiet allure of discovery.
